It is another great day. We get on the motorcycle and take “Eight Mile” into town. John needs a haircut. I find Main Street and a chocolate shop.
We head back on “Eight Mile” to take a helicopter ride. We both love to fly. This is my second helicopter ride.
We fly over the Royal Gorge and the Royal Gorge Bridge. Our pilot narrates the trip. It is really quite wonderful.
A bit about the bridge: It is a bridge to nowhere. Supposedly, it was built because of a bet between two Texans. “Bet you can’t built a suspension bridge across that span.”
It was the highest suspension bridge in the world until 2003. It is still the highest in North America. Basically, it is an amusement park.
Safely back on the ground, we go back to the angler’s shop to get John a fishing license. Everyone tells us that he does not need a fishing guide. The river is low. There is much public access!
Next to the angler’s shop is the entrance to Skyline Drive. It is a one-way road with warnings that it is not suitable for large vehicles. This is for us.
There is a ridge next to “Eight Mile.” Someone decided to put a road across the top of it. I have no idea why. Maybe, it started as a hiking path. It is simply a road across the top of this ridge.
The views on Skyline Drive are spectacular. It is a perfect way to finish a perfect day!
