Wow! What a great day it was! Jeanne Hamilton and I went to Shaffer Bend Recreation Area east of Marble Falls to photograph wildflowers. The weather was absolutely perfect, with little or no wind to interfere with our photo shoots. I think we were there at the peak of the blooming season. Shaffer Bend is larger than Turkey Bend (where we went last week) so it had many more patches of wildflowers. The terrain at Shaffer Bend is more hilly and varied than at Turkey Bend as well.
We went back into Marble Falls for lunch at the China Kitchen Restaurant on 1st Street. The food was excellent and abundant and the service was good. It had been recommended to us last week by a couple who were our table mates at the Bluebonnet Café.
On the way back to Austin we went through Johnson City hoping to get some more good shots at the space where US 290 W and US 281 merge south of town. The median was full of beautiful flowers for several miles, but that particular space had almost none! It usually is filled with a great variety of flowers, so we were disappointed. It didn’t ruin our day, though, because we had already seen so many at Shaffer Bend.
