We didn't get on the road until after 11am since we only had 200 miles to go to our next stop.
We filled up with gas and headed west down US 90 for 30 miles and came to Del Rio right on the Texas/Mexico border. We stopped at Walmart for a few groceries since I doubt we will see another big grocery store for awhile.
A few miles out of Del Rio we had to stop for a Border Patrol inspection station while the dog sniffed around the car for drugs. We passed by Langtry, where Judge Roy Bean resided at one time and then crossed over the Pecos river bridge. Later we pulled off at a picnic area for lunch and then moved on our way to Marathon, needing to be there by 5:30pm.
The wind was blowing first from the east, which gave us a nice tailwind except when the road turned north and then it was a bad crosswind. Later in the day it was coming at us from the southwest direction.
We went 5-6 miles at a time without seeing another vehicle, and about 1 out 10 of them were Border Patrol pickups.
We did arrive at the RV park in Marathon around 4:30pm and got set up in time to join Craig, Scott, and Dayle for our Tuesday night Discipleship session using Skype. Thankfully the park has a good wifi signal.
This place claims to be good for "Class I" stargazing....we will check it out a little later. I know the moon is going to be big and bright tonight.
We plan to swing thru Big Bend NP tomorrow and park for a couple of nights at an RV park in Terlingua and then go up to Presidio in the car....never been there before.
Not sure where we will land after that. All of the above plans are prefaced by "if God wills"
All is good.
