Heading into the sparse Mojave Desert

glad we didn't need gas at this stop!

Kelso Depot in Mojave National Preserve-a railroad through the desert

changing rock colors depending on type of minerals

Today we headed north towards Death Valley. We drove through the Mojave Desert stopping in the town of Amboy. It was at one time a popular stop on Route 66 during the American roadway's heyday and still has Roy's motel and Cafe, a historical landmark.(current population of 4 and $5.00 gas-not much happening anymore) We continued down the road, stopping in the town of Kelso at the old Train Depot museum. Very informative about this area of the Mojave Desert. On to another "booming" town-Shoshone-population 31 to spend the night.( and I thought I lived in a small town!)
