We left the Atchafalaya Basin area around 9 am. There had been a forecast for dense fog, so we were in no hurry, but that didn’t materialize. Instead, there was beautiful blue sky with a few wispy clouds for drama. The trip to Winnie was uneventful – only one slow-down for a tanker truck off of the road and small patches of construction. The highway in several places was severely tooth-jarring – several vehicles that had passed us were stopped on the side of the highway checking their loads. We were really lucky – when we stopped in Winnie, I slinked to the back like I always do, and checked everything, and John’s recliner had moved just a little bit – I’m sure glad we take the time to strap everything down. I have not found anything else that moved/broke.
After parking the RV, we drove over to Anahuac to see Stephanie. Then we made a loop down and around on FM#1985, passed the refuge and back to Winnie. A stop at the grocery netted a baked chicken, which John deboned and I made rice with chicken gravy and buttered peas – a good feast. Sweet rice pudding was our dessert. A good day.
