Here we are in San Sebastian in the Basque region of Northern Spain, an autonomous area with its own parliament, language and an identity quite distinct from other areas in the country. The influence of the French is evident in the architecture and lifestyle which is not surprising considering that the border with France is only 20 kilometres away.

The change in landscape is also obvious with the ubiquitous orange trees, olive groves and dry conditions of Andalucia in the south giving way to the verdant, mountainous regions of the Basque country.

Today is a glorious sunny Autumn day - perfect for strolling along the promonade of Playa de La Concha, the main beach in San Sebastian, and taking a leisurely hike up Mount Urgull for great views of the surrounds.
