We left the Bussaco Forest and our palatial hotel and headed to the fairytale-like medieval village of Obidos which was the wedding gift of King Dinis to Queen Isabel in 1282. The cobblestone main street wends up hill with many steep side streets off to the right. We were treated to cherry wine served in chocolate cups which we of course devoured after drinking the wine. There were many shops with some possible purchases, but nothing really enticing.
On our way to the ocean, we stopped in the former fishing village for lunch at a seafood restaurant with the freshest sea bounty skillfully displayed and prepared for us. We are about to encounter the westernmost part of Europe with sandy beaches in Cascais and rocky shores at the Cabo da Roca. Anne & Tom stayed on the bus instead of taking the rugged (and partially washed-out) up and down trail along the coast and watched the other 10 of our group slowly return to the bus after their vigorous hike. We arrived at our modern hotel and had a wonderful dinner on our own in the Japanese(!) restaurant.
