A nice night at the hotel checked out and a stop for some breakfast before heading to the park, Misting out this morning so checked out the Thurston Lava Tubes then a drive down chain of Craters Road all the way to the Puma Coast a nice drive of about 19 miles through the black lava flows. The last flow in this area was in 1988 so was very interesting drive through it. Did a hike to the Pu'u Loa Petroglyphs a easy hike across the lave field, then on to the coast and the Holei Sea Arch, at the end of the road. From here you can take a 6 mile (one way) hike to see the lava flowing into the sea, i didn't do it LOL Back up the road and a stop to do a 4 mile round trip on the Kilauea Iki Trail the most popular one in the park, you pass through an ohia forest along the rim of the crater the drop into the crater about 400 feet below, the molten magma is only 230 ft below where you are walking, wow, across the mile long crater to climb up the other side and back to the parking lot, a very nice hike. Back at my car I do as much of the crater Rim drive as you can do part is closed do to the smell from the carter. Then it is off to Hilo where I will spend one more night on the Big Island, get checked into my hotel a bit of rest then out for dinner at a local restaurant at the Kuhio Grill for some Hawaiian food, was great food then back to hotel calling it a night.
