Finish packing a small bag and off to the commuter part of the airport for my 45 minute flight to KOA was foggy this morning so not a lot of pictures, small prop plane carrying 9 people. Got to the big island and picked up my car a red Hyundai Veloster 3 door, interesting little car, okay once I got used to it a bit low getting in and out LOL. Drove down the Kona coast heading to the south end of the island, making my first stop at the Kaloko-Honokohhua Historical Park, a place with a couple fish ponds and lava flows from many years ago. Then back in my little car heading south just checking out the island, a stop for a quick lunch at the golden arches lol, and around the tip of the island, wanted to go to the green sand beach but road not for small rental cars :(. Next stop is on the way back north and it is the Punalu'u Black Sand beach walked around checking out the green sea turtles on the beach, sandals off walking in the black sand. The area has a small place to do some swimming but some rough waves. Back on the road to the town of Volcano and get checked into my hotel very nice room, the Bamboo Room a bit pricey but it is location, location, location. With a light rain coming down, I head off to the Hawaii Volcanoes National park, a stop at visitor center to find out hiking trails and things to see and do while at the park. A drive to the carter where you can see stream coming out, back to town and some dinner at local restaurant, waiting for it to get darker then back to the carter to see the red glow from the hot lave, a bit chilly here LOL. Then back to the hotel and a bit of rest before exploring the Park tomorrow.
