Today was supposed to be a shorter ride to Dinan, we thought we would take a short cut, to give us more time to check out the old town. What can I say but it was a "Le grand Boo Boo"! We cycled an extra 3.5 hours further than we intended, all up 96km in stead of the proposed 32km (oops), should have turned right rather than turning left.
This mistake was further compounded by a French Chap who assured us we were headed in the right direction to Dinan along the Canal d'Ille et Rance. Only after stopping for a coffee many hours later at a little Canal Loch house did the young waitress pointed in the opposite direction, this being about 12:30. It was a defining moment, a "not Happy Jan" moment, we then had to retrace our route back along the Canal d'Ille et Rance to where we had entered the canal tow path.
We finally arrived in Dinan about 3:30pm after a solid 6.5hrs in the saddle. We are still happily married - I think!! ( will ask Marg tomorrow). On reflection we saw the beautiful eleven lochs (twice in fact) , the tow path had better scenery on the route we should not have been on.
After a quick shower we headed out by foot to explore Dinan, old walled section.
It is a beautiful, although heaps of tourists, shops abound along cobbled lane ways.
As I write this the Pearl has fallen asleep a tad exhausted after today's peddling effort, although it was mostly flat, you had to keep the legs spinning as the gravel surface on the tow path did not provide good rolling for the wheels.
Tomorrow we head for St Malo, we won't try any short cuts this time LOL
