7/13 – 7/19
It took us two days to travel 329 miles (US2, I5, 530) across the Cascade Mountains to Darrington, Washington. Along the way we stopped at Nason Creek National Forest campground by Leavenworth, Washington for a night.
We were in Darrington for the Darrington Bluegrass Festival, which we attended for the first time in 2012. We had a first at this festival. Normally when the campers arrive at festivals they put their chairs out to reserve spots for the performances. When we went to put our chairs out we were the first chairs. Yep, we had good seats throughout the festival. Unfortunately, as a whole, this festival was one of the least entertaining. Many groups were just not that good. Luckily, the Gibson Brothers put on four shows and they were excellent. Groups that performed (listing from poor to excellent) included: The Combinations, Panhandle Polecats, Red Desert Ramblers, Birdsview Bluegrass, The Crowe Brothers, Damascus Road, Gold Heart, North Country and the Gibson Brothers.
