Arc de Triumph

The Seine

Under the Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower

Got up early and had a French breakfast - croissant, bread & jam - at a local cafe. Headed out on the bikes for a quick tour of Paris: 16km, we took in Place de la Concorde, Arc de Triumph, the Seine & the Eiffel Tower. Then on to Gare Montparnasse to get the train to Saumur. Small crisis - they didn't want us to take the bikes on the train but we managed to talk our way on. We had a connecting train to catch at Augers St Laud. It no longer existed! We had to wait 3 hours for the next one - a small train with now 2x as many people & bikes.

We were tired & weary when we arrived. Our spirits were immediately lifted as John, host from Loirelife Cycling, was standing right outside the train and helped us lift the bikes off.

The tough day travelling was quickly forgotten as we arrived at Gue de Ray (our accommodation is just a short walk down the road at Le Haut Gue). 30mins after arriving, we were showered & sitting around a table with 6 others - Mike & Teresa, Peter & Lesley, Suzanne & Sally - who are doing the cycling tour aswell. Dinner was outside the barn under a small marquee.

We had a lovely evening getting to know everyone over some great food, champagne & wine.
