Ed & Marilyn 'The Happy Wanderers' travel blog

As most of you dear readers who have read my journal for very long already know, I consider myself a Conservative, a Catholic Christian, and I remind you of this, lest any of you get the wrong idea of where I am coming from.

Marilyn & I are blessed to have many friends, and every one of them, we consider to be a good person and a blessing from God.

We have friends with blue eyes like Marilyn, some with brown eyes like myself, others with different colors of eyes. I even went to High School with a friend and classmate who had one eye of blue and one of brown. God made them that way.

We don’t judge any of these friends because they are different than we are.

They are just friends.

We have friends who have brown hair, some have black hair, some are blond, and some are gray like me. Some even have no hair at all.

God made them that way.

We don’t judge them based on their looks.

They are just friends.

We have friends who are white like us, some of our friends are black. Some are from Asia, and some from different countries in Europe or the Middle East.

God made them and placed them in those countries.

We don’t judge any of them because their skin is a different color than ours or because they are from a culture different than we are.

They are just friends.

We have friends and some family members who are of a different faith from ours. Some are Jewish, most are Christians although some of those are of different denominations, and one or two of our friends claim to be atheist.

God gave them all the gift of free choice.

We don’t judge them because they attend a different church, or even none at all.

They are just friends.

We have friends who are Gay.

God made them different than us.

We don’t judge them because they are different from us.

They are just friends.

We have friends who are wealthy, or at least wealthier than we are. Others are less well to do.

We don’t judge them based on their wealth.

They are just friends.

We have friends who have conservative political beliefs while others are liberal in their thoughts.

We may argue and disagree with them, but we don’t judge them based on their politics.

They are just friends.

So, as you can see, we have friends of all types.

The important thing to us is that they are all good people.

Our lives are so much enriched because they are all so different.

As my good friend, Paul Washington, once said:

“I think God made us all different, giving each person different talents and gifts. Not to make any one of us better than any other, but rather so that each one of us might share the talents and gifts given us by God, to enrich the lives of one another.”

Well, Paul, my friend, I have never forgotten those wise words.

Now I will leave all of you dear readers with one more thought.

God did NOT appoint us to be a judge of anyone, especially the good people we call friends.

It is exactly because of these friends that we can say with conviction that Life is Good!
