Ed & Marilyn 'The Happy Wanderers' travel blog

I was remembering our wedding day, 53 years ago today, and pondering all of the highs and lows of a long term marriage.

I’m sure all couples go through the good and bad that just living life brings to your doorstep.

It is usually the good times you remember but sometimes the bad times were so terrible that they are never forgotten.

We have been there, done that, with both.

I have often said that the happiest day of my life was Dec 26, 1964, when I watched the birth of our first born daughter, Kelly.

The saddest day of my life was May 8th, 1990, when I kissed her on the forehead, whispered “I love you” and with tears streaming down my cheeks, said goodbye for the last time, on the day of her funeral.

Life is an adventure for sure, filled with events which bring joy, happiness and contentment, as well as those devastating moments when we feel as if we can no longer go on.

The real joy in my life has been Marilyn and our two daughters, Kelly and Jennifer. At this stage of our lives, our grandkids, Colby and Lauren, are a source of love and joy that we never dreamed could be so intense.

I’ve made lots of mistakes in my life, said and done some foolish things, but through it all was the constant love and support of my wife and daughters.

What Marilyn & I started back on June 2nd, 1962, was an adventure that we have lived together, sharing it all, the good and the bad, and I have to say that it has been mostly wonderful.

The love of our family and friends is something we cherish.

We could never have dreamed or imagined the twists and turns that this journey along the path of life would take us.

So, to all of our family and friends, we say “Thank You” for the blessing you have been in our lives.

As an old friend once said, “You have sown flowers along the pathway of our lives.”

Just as when we began our journey so long ago, we had no idea what was waiting for us, we have no idea what lies ahead of us today and for whatever time we have left.

One thing I do know is that we’ll spend it together, in the company of those we love.

Life is Good!
