5-27-15 College Park, MD to Jersey City, NJ

We got up early today but were in no big hurry to get going. Had breakfast, got the rig ready and hit the road at 9:45AM (early!) Well, almost. I hooked up the Toyota and didn’t allow myself enough room to make the first turn out of the park. Had to get out and disconnect the rig (can’t back it up with the tow vehicle on.) Boy was I pleased. We got started again at 10:07AM (late.)

Today we traveled north on I-95 through Baltimore, into Delaware via the Delaware Memorial Bridge which spans the Delaware River…..into New Jersey. We were through New Jersey and into Jersey City where our RV park is located. We traveled 220 miles, through 3 states, in about 4.5 hours. Mostly fast sailing and no troubles except at the toll booths.

At the risk of sounding like a bit of a whiner, I offer a little tip from seasoned travelers Bob and Julie. If you find yourself on I-95 between Washington DC and New York City, you had better have a lot of cash. Driving the Winnebago towing our Toyota Tacoma cost us $85.75 in toll charges, we almost didn’t have enough cash to get off the freeway. Just sayin. You could avoid most of the tolls by taking roads into Pennsylvania then east to New York, but that would cost you an extra 100 miles. I hate to complain, but…(Editor’s Note: Bob LOVES to complain...)

Liberty Harbor Marina and RV Park could never be accused of being a resort. It’s a bit primitive, basic gravel pad with electric and water hook ups. It’s really a marina with an RV park added as an afterthought. The park has the major advantage location, only 15 minutes from New York City. It will do just fine as a base of operations for 7 days.

We took a look around the RV park and the marina to get a lay of the land. The harbor is cool with lots of nice boats. You are able to see the back of the Statue of Liberty from the marina if you have good eyes. We will be getting a closer look at her soon.
