We’ve made it to New England and our first stop is East Lyme, CT on the CT Shore. It was a long drive from VA broken up by a one night stop in Jonestown, PA. It is still pretty cool (50’s and 60’s), and we are into our third pollen season of the spring (and it shows on the car) with dogwoods, redbuds, azaleas, rhododendrons, and phlox blooming in mid-May!
As this was an old stomping ground of Bruce, he took me around showing me the villages of Old Lyme and Old Saybrook. We also drove to the beach area Soundview where he leased a parking lot the first summer out of high school, and, with beach parking at a premium, he paid his expenses for the summer. Of course, after 50 years these places were not quite as he remembered them.
