4/9 – 5/7

We were all packed and ready to go by noon, which was when Patt (woman we hired for transportation to and from the airport) pulled up to our house. In an hour we were at the Phoenix airport. The US Air flight left the gate at 3:15, waited on the tarmac for a storm to pass over Dallas/Fort Worth and then departed an hour later. After arriving in Dallas we had to wait an hour for the Red Roof Inn shuttle to take us to our motel. We were in bed by 10:00pm; it was a long day.

The next morning we left the hotel at 9:30am and by 3:30pm we were at the Park Royal hotel in Cozumel. The Park Royal is an all-inclusive resort that we had been to prior years. It has over 250 rooms, three pools, one beach, three restaurants, two snack bars and five bars. The staff is exceptional and the main reason we return there. After the first day we changed rooms, So that Ken could have a balcony that was in the shade.

Most of our time was spent lying around either the pool or the ocean. Ken read 15 books in the four weeks and Joan painted 14 watercolors. We did manage to make it to the bar for drinks (Ken drinks wine and virgin pina coladas, Joan simply tries every drink she can pin a name to) and to the buffet for meals. They have two additional restaurants that we visited: the Mexican Restaurant we ate at eleven times and the Italian Restaurant we ate at two times. Guess which one was our favorite.

We made some friends during our stay: Chuck and Linda from Colorado and Derrick and Edna from Toronto. We enjoyed our many get-togethers and group meals.

We did do some work while we were in Cozumel. We got an offer of $200 cash and a ferry ride to Playa Del Carmen for siting through a 90-minute timeshare presentation. This was the first one we have gone to where it was almost pleasant and, although we did not make it out of their in 90 minutes, it was close.

The resort has entertainment every night and we went to see most of them (most are repeated every week). The Hispanic Show was quite good with a cast of excellent dancers.
