Elk City, OK to Topeka, KS
May 10, 2015
|With my plan in mind, to stay just behind the storms as they moved east, until we arrive at our destination of Hannibal, MO, we were nearly ready to leave Rolling Retreats at 8:00 this morning.
We dumped the holding tanks and were ready to go.
Slade drove his Golf Cart up next to us, handed us the items requested for our friends, Bob and Jesse, and shook hands as we said “So Long.” We pulled out right at 8:15, headed for either Wichita or even Topeka, Kansas, depending on the weather we might encounter.
We made one stop to fill up with fuel just prior to reaching the Kansas border, and decided to continue on to Topeka.
We hated to miss seeing our friends in Wichita, but the thought of seeing our grandkids urged us on toward Topeka.
After an even seven hours (to the very minute) on the road we pulled into Deer Creek Valley RV Resort in Topeka, Kansas.
The new fridge quickly cooled back down to 36 degrees while the freezer settled at -4 degrees. Perfect!
We did discover one more issue though.
The valance over the dining room table had fallen down on one side, so I simply removed it for the remainder of the ride to Hannibal.
Maybe my son-in-law can help me get it back where it belongs.
Once we were all set up, I fixed a Bloody Mary for Marilyn, poured a little bit of Jameson Irish Whiskey over some ice for me, and we sat down to watch the final round of the Players Championship Golf Tourney.
After a bite of dinner we were ready for a relaxing evening and a good night of sleep.
We are anxious to get home to see the kids and grandkids.
A drive of only five hours faces us tomorrow, to reach the Mark Twain cave campground.
We will call that home for the next five weeks or so before we leave again, for the summer in Colorado.
It was a fine trip today and we are happy to be settled in for the night.
Life is Good!
