Two nights in Lima at the Casa Adnina Select hotel in Miraflores, a section of Lima near the Pacific Ocean ($127 a night and a very nice hotel with restaurant). Miraflores is considered one of the safest places in Lima, even at night. Today we took an informative city tour I booked online with Viator ($36.00). We visited the Love Garden built above the cliffs on the Pacific, stopped on one of the 43 pre Inca prymides, toured colonial Lima including the main Plaza de Armes, where Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro lived and was murdered, The Convent of Santo Domingo, Plaza Cathedral, and the park central were bodies were burned during the Inquestion. After the tour Leanor and I watched the Military band play for the changing of the guards at the Palace of the Govenor and toured the catacombs of Monastery of San Francisco.
Our big adventure happened taking a taxi from the Plaza to the Museum of Gold. Thinking it would be about a half hour and ending up being stuck in a delapidated taxi for 2 1/2 hours of snail speed trafic. Eventually we got to the to 'small' museum and had about one hour left before closing. The taxi back to our hotel took another hour and much time stuck in unmoving traffic. Gues a city of 10 million makes for fraffic jams. We spent more time in taxis then sightseeing.
We ended our day with a walk in Miraflores near our hotel and stopped at Mama Olla for dinner and a couple of the best Pisco Sours. No more achoholic drinks because they are bad for altitude. Highly recommend this restaurant as the location and food was excellent and prices somewhat lower then nearby places. We took our fist altitude medicaion tonight and tomorrow take a local fligth to Cusco that is 10,800 feet above sea level.
Peru money, the 'sol' is easy to use. One $1 equales $3 sols.
