2015 Fero & Lois' Peru / Ecuador Adventure travel blog

We awoke to a beautiful sunny day and following breakfast went straight to the pool. We spent the better part of the day soaking up the sun, dipping into the pool and catching up on the blog. A very pleasant relaxing day.

Around 4:00pm we wandered over to the beach and rented beach chairs and an umbrella. From this vantage point we could see all the ‘happenings’ on the beach (certainly not as much drama at this end of the beach!) along with kayak ears and surfers. Surprisingly there was lots to watch; fish were jumping in the surf, swooping down on them were large birds; as the tide came in crabs were skittering everywhere; vendors selling everything from ice cream to plastic sand pails were shouting; and the dogs of the city were running with abandon. Quite an interesting cross section of life at the sea.

As the sun began to set the clouds rolled in so we took a walk to find a bodega (small store) to purchase some snacks to go with our wine. We found several, however it took quite some time to read all the packages to decipher their contents. Snacks in hand we walked through the quiet streets back to the hotel.

Huanchaco is a relatively quite town and only comes to life in the evenings and on weekends – oh and during summer vacation break, which would explain the overindulgence of the young tourists! There is approximately 60,000 people in Huanchaco and housing ranges from basic to modern to large luxury homes. We think many of these homes are vacation homes of the well to do from Lima.

Once evening had set in we returned to our deck, had a glass of wine and some nibbles and off to sleep.
