I woke up at 10 a.m. today. That's the longest I've slept since I left Coffeyville and it felt absolutely wonderful. I was beat.

Besides getting up so late, it was also freezing outside, black ice predicted on the highway to Big Bend and Ft. Davis, so I decided to just stick around town and see what Alpine had to offer.

The town didn't have a neighborhood I wanted to photograph. No nifty well-loved homes and no nifty old ones that I found interesting. The university is the most impressive complex in town and it also had a wonderful little Museum of Big Bend. I didn't get to the National Park, but thanks to the museum I got 'close'.

There was no WalMart, no H.E.B. and two small grocery stores of the same name. So I did a little shopping then treated myself to a Mexican dinner.
