World’s Largest Floating Goldfish Cracker
If you are a fan of those tasty treats that are known as goldfish crackers you will definitely be interested in seeing the world’s largest floating goldfish cracker. This floating oddity was created by sculpture students at the University of North Florida and can be seen happily floating in the fountains that are in Hemming Plaza between the Museum of Contemporary Art and City Hall in Jacksonville. While it is ok to give this sculpture a little push onlookers are reminded not to ride on it.
Giant Can of 7 UP
If you are a fan a soda pop then and you happen to be making your way to Jacksonville you will certainly want to put viewing a giant can of 7 UP on your to do list. This giant oddity was created in 1978 and stands an incredible 62 feet tall with the actual dimensions of a soda can. This 7 UP can is actually a water tower that contains around 65,000 gallons of water that helps to create some of the world’s favorite soft drinks. Originally painted as a can of Canada Dry Ginger Ale it was then changed to 7 UP to celebrate the start of the production on 7 UP at the bottling site.
First Baptist Church Garage Lighthouse
When you normally think of parking garages, nothing too unusual comes to mind however when it comes to the parking garage at the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville you will find that there is the quite odd sight of a lighthouse in the corner. The lighthouse is in fact a smaller replica of the St. Augustine lighthouse. Only the church’s version has a cross on top of it. It is said that the lighthouse was added to “light the way” to the church’s parking garage.
Full Size U-Haul Truck on Building
When it comes to advertising a business you need to grab people’s attention. What better way for a moving company to get your attention then by placing one of their moving truck’s on the top of their place of business. That’s right, right in the middle of Jacksonville you will see a full size U-Haul truck on top on a U-Haul business. It is a sight to see that is for sure.
Bright Orange Dinosaur
Yet another interestingly odd site that you will find on Beach Boulevard in Jacksonville is a statute of a bright orange dinosaur that even has eyes that still light up. This statue was a part of a long gone mini golf business and the dinosaur just never got torn down. In fact people are now working on restoring it and new construction is just building around it.
