Christmas Island November 19

Leaving Naddi, Fiji

Fiji airlines is marvelous

Yesterday was both November 18 and November 19 for us. We crossed the international dateline a bit before landing for a refueling stop at Christmas Island. It was a BEAUTIFUL coral reef picture from the plane and so untouched. There are only a few fishing lodges on that island yet half the plane of passengers got off to go fishing. Lots of Brits , Aussies and Kiwi's go there to fish a special kind of fish only found there. The pit crew who refueled the plan were definetly a mom and pop company. It was a fasinating thing to see this fuel stop in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. We arrived at Nadi around 9 pm - a 10 hour plane trip from Honoluu. It took a while to get through customs and to the hotel. Left early this morning to get back to the airport since international travelers have to arrive 3 hours before their flight and ours left at 9. We are so impressed with Fiji Airways - they have great service and wonderful planes. After almost 5 hours of flight we arrived at Sydney. Boy those folks have customs down to a fine art for folks living in the USA -- it was a breeze to get through and we avoided a very large line that was in store for ALL other nations except UK, and NZ and US.

We checked in to our hotel then headed out for a 6 hour walk down to Sydney Harbor and the Opera House via the Botantical Gardens and Hyde Park. It was a lovely day - around 84 degrees with trade winds..

We walked 22,000 steps today and were glad to get back to the hotel. Terry has come down with a head cold and we are hoping he won't get the week long cough that ofen comes with that for him.

Today we had to go to the Apple store and get a charger that fiit AU and NZ -- my iiphone was at a zero charge and my Ipad too. We have not been very successful getting our other gagets to work with travel adapters we bought in Fairbanks that have the AU and NZ prongs We couldn't get anything to work in Fiji either. Hmmm - that is our next learning opportunity. We get on the ship around noon tomorrow. Hugs from Down Under
