A Travel Day:
We got an early start this morning, departing the Cabela’s RV Campground at 7:45 AM.
Our route today will take us south on Hwy 19, 138, Rt 6 and Hwy 71 to US 287.
The distance is estimated at 265 miles.
The road conditions were good and the traffic was again very light. We made very good time making just three rest stops and a lunch break. I should note that these were mostly secondary roads and some very narrow with no paved shoulder. I had to stay up on the wheel for some white knuckle driving at times.
The scenery was unremarkable, traveling through farm and ranch country. We also passed by many wind turbines located on top of a large open ridgeline.
We arrived at the Lamar Sportsman RV Park in Lamar at 2:00 PM. There was no one at the office when we arrived but the owner arrived a short time later to check us in.
This is an old KOA campground that has seen better days. The new owners seem to be working on some improvements. We have the place practically to ourselves.
Nancy is happy to be enjoying some warmer weather. I'm already missing the Black Hills.
Tomorrow we plan a day trip to the Old Bents Fort Historical Site and a couple of local museums that sound interesting.
