After leaving Branson we traveled US 71 north to Kansas City and then I35 into Iowa. Camped at our first SKP (Escapee)park near Osceola, IA. The R&R Ranch was off the interstate and the directions said to turn right at the "second" stop sign from the exit. We neglected to count the stop sign as we exited as the "first" stop sign, however. Drove for miles on narrow, dusty country roads trying to find a place to turn around! Finally flagged down a passing car for directions and was able to work our way back to the park. Might have been worth $8/night if we hadn't gotten lost!

July 13 - Arrived at Hinckley, MN and had reservations about 10 miles east of town at Pioneer Village Resort. This is another Coast to Coast park. We were parked in a heavy grove of pines (see picture). We spent the next two days roaming the area in the Jeep.

July 14 - We drove to Pine City and near there found the historic Northwest Fur Company museum and site. Reinactors in period costumes gave a most interesting overview of the fur trade business in the area. Returning to Hinckley we stopped at the Indian casino there for the buffet ($27 for the two of us.) Played the slots and won enough to pay for our meal plus about $20!

July 15 - Drove south all the way back to Bloomington to visit the Mall of America, billed as the largest in the USA I think. It was huge. Walked most of the four levels window shopping and wound up buying ice cream at the Cold Stone Creamery. Drove back to camp. I told Alice Faye that was the furthest I had ever driven just to get some ice cream.

July 16- Left Hinckley and continued north to Two Harbors where we camped overnight. Stoppped briefly in Duluth on the way.

July 17 - Beautiful country along Lake Superior as we headed north to Grand Marais, where we will stay for a week. Stopped along the way to visit the Split Rock Lighthouse and to see the falls at Gooseberry State Park. See picures.
