|Monday, July 21, 2014 – Last Day on the Road – Medford Oregon to home
At 7:00 we are off to Crater Lake. It is cloudy and 62 degrees and there are blue mountains on the horizon.
This is what I remember and love in the mountains. Pine trees thicker than the hair on a dog and rivers wide, and deep with lots of water in them. Large lakes surrounded by trees and green underbrush foliage beneath them. Ahh back to the Cascades!
We did not see any other cars for at least 30 miles. Could be because it is 8:20. Lol. Just as I wrote that a guy on a motorcycle went by. Brave man it is cool out.
Crater Lake is another wonder on this trip. It is beautiful and the water is very blue, so blue it is almost purple looking.
There are patches of snow that have not melted yet and there is a breeze. It makes it very cool outside the car as you can tell by the pictures of us in sweatshirts. We can’t bear to put on jeans yet.
We drove only part way around the crater because they were scaling rock and trees along the road and we did not want to take 25 minutes to just sit and wait. We drove back the way we came and took pictures with a little more light. OK so we are getting a little anxious to get home.
On the east side of the Crater the White Bark trees get the west wind and grow branches only on their east side.
We have driven over 16,000 miles and Bob says we only need 8,000 more miles and we would have driven the distance around the earth at the equator. Thank goodness we did not make that!
It is lightly raining and we are outside Eugene. It is so nice to see. Weird huh? I must live in the Pacific Northwest.
It was 3:30 when it took us an extra hour to drive through Portland. That was hard for us anxious to be home travelers.
We finally got home at 6:00 pm. It is nice to be home although I had to think a minute to remember which cupboard had the dishes in it. Lol I have had new cupboard almost every week for 4 ½ months.
See the summary posting for all our final thoughts.
