It was a long flight but I was happy to see my bike arrive in good shape at Catania airport. It took a while to unwrap and put it together, trying desperately to remember what the bike shop guy had told me, and while doing so a couple of guys came over and curiously started asking me questions in Italian. I wish I could have engaged with them more than smiles and hand gestures.
Once together, mapless, I headed east towards the coast and then north into central Catania. Along the way I stopped at one little marina and old guys and kids looked to be having so much fun splashing around, I took a first dip in the Mediterranean Sea. Then had an espresso at a street cafe waiting for the owner of the B&B to get home from university. He is a concert pianist and conductor. Tomorrow morning he'll take me to have grenita, a local sweet. Italy really fills the senses.
