A Day of Fun With John & Lori
Jul 1, 2014
|Our plan for today was to ride with John & Lori, to have breakfast at the Omelet Parlor in Colorado Springs.
It took about 35 minutes to drive up there, and in spite of the crowded parking lot, we were seated immediately.
The service was great and the meal was super good, beginning with fresh squeezed orange juice, followed by a large Belgian Waffle, eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast. Marilyn had huevos rancheros and liked those too.
It was a solid overcast sky and cool temperatures which continued into our day today, so I gave directions to John and we drove the Lower Gold Camp Road in the mountains high above the city.
We stopped several times for pictures, and to enjoy the panoramic views.
John & Lori have been in this area numerous times so we decided to show them some places they had not visited on previous trips to this area.
We showed them Helen Hunt Falls, the Broadmoor Hotel and golf courses, the Zoo (Parking Lot Only today), and tried to make it to the Will Rogers Shrine. Due to road issues we were unable to make the latter, and headed for home.
On the way back to the RV we decided to show our friends Bishops Castle, then go on to Westcliff, and drive back on Hwy 50 along the Arkansas River.
We took off, this time with me driving, and were happy to see the sun peeking through the clouds before we reached Bishops Castle.
We all enjoyed climbing around, even to the top of the tallest towers. John dared to go across the highest bridges, while the rest of us waited below.
We stopped in Westcliff, noticing that the good pizza place, formerly known as “R’s” has been sold and is now under a different name.
Then it was on to Hwy 50 and the scenic drive back to Canon City.
We did see a few rafts being paddled by helmet clad, life jacket wearing, rowers, in the Arkansas river today.
We drove directly to Pizza Madness where we enjoyed pizza, conversation and fun.
It was around 6:30 by the time we made it back home.
Tomorrow will be more fun and hopefully will be after a good night of sleep. Any time spent in the company of John & Lori, is time well spent.
I do have pictures to post with this journal entry, so I hope the Wi-Fi is working ok.
