We have ended our journey in Peru, and have entered Bolivia. We left Puno 2 days ago, and took a 6 hour bus ride to La Paz. The first part of our tour ended, so we lost 4 people and our tour guide, but have picked up a couple from Montreal, and a new guide, Ben, who is from the States. While in Puno, we went on a home stay with a family that lives on Amanti island. We stayed with a couple and their 15 year old daughter. They were very sweet, and cooked us amazing meals. When we first got to the island, the families took everyone to play soccer, but then left us there. Typical Lyndz and I ended up getting lost, and our mom came out looking for us. We eventually made it back! After an amazing and very filling dinner, they dressed us up in traditional clothing, and took us to a fiesta. Their was live music inside, and lots of dancing, and a huge bonfire outside. AFter, we went back to the home for a very comfortable nights sleep. The view was amazing-it was a full moon, and we could see and hear the water from our room. The next morning, they woke us up and had breakfast (pancakes) all ready for us. We absolutley loved the home stay. On the way back to Puno, we stopped at the Floating Islands, which was also very neat.
We have since spent the last 2 nights in La Paz. Yesterday, we went shopping-to the Witches Market (where they have a lot of llama and bird fetuses) and then in the after that we headed to the Coca Museum, which had quite a few interesting facts, including that Freud was the first person to try cocaine, which explains quite a bit about him! Today a group of us headed out to Chacaltaya, which used to be the world's highest ski resort, but there is no longer any skiing there. We climbed almost to the top, which was almost 5500m above sea level, and quite cold with the wind. Then we drove out to Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley), which was quite interesting-looked a little bit like our Badlands, but not as much colour.
Tomorrow we are off to Cochabamba for a few days, then Lyndz and I are the only 2 who are going to brave the night bus to Sucre. Everyone else upgraded to the plane, and paying for an extra night hotel. We're too cheap and adventurous!
Love Tovè & Lyndz
p.s. I'm quite sad to hear that I'll be missing the Backstreet Boys. :( Anyone seen Brad or Angelina around town yet?!
