We started our day with a visit to the State Chili cook off in Grand Lake State Chili Championship at Grand Lake Town Park. This is a popular spot in town for festivals and our second time attending one of them. We wished we had gone at lunch time and tried samples of their chili but we were too full during our visit. This is the “official” Red, Green and Salsa Championship for the State of Colorado.
We enjoyed checking out all the booths and visiting with a ton of dogs that were in the park. Sammy loves dogs and they love him right back, he is a dog magnet. :-) After our time at the cook off we headed to the market for a one day license to try our luck at fishing one more time. With our licenses in hand we all headed to Pine Creek. This is a beautiful area with moose signs all over the park and other wildlife warning.
We also saw a lot of white pelicans all over the nearby lake. Talk about wildlife, this area is absolutely incredible. I have seen almost 50 moose in the area, some in Rocky Mountain National Park but a lot of them around town and in our campground too. I am finally satisfied with my moose search, who could ask for more? We have also seen hundreds of elk and deer and more.
Back to the fishing, Vickie and Jerry fished for a while but still no luck. I spent my time watching the pelicans. After all the fishing we drove to Granby for steak dinners at Maverick’s and then grocery shopping at City Market. We bought some fresh trout and some ribs we will be smoking in the smoker tomorrow. Another great day in Rocky Mountain National Park, check back later for more.
NOTE: Photos will be added later when I have better Wi-Fi.
