|Off to Bali today! 2 hour bus ride to the ferry, 1 hour ferry ride and then 4 hour bus to Tanah Lot. Pura Tanah Lot is one of Bali's most recognized tourist destinations, sitting on a huge eroded outcropping of rock offshore. The most popular time to visit is late afternoon when the sun begins to settle over the horizon and the temple is silhouetted against the vibrant glow of the sky. The temple is accessible on foot at low tide. It was built in the 17th century and is one of the nine directional temples in Bali. The Faithful come to pray for the success of their crops and leave offerings. Hidden amidst the surrounding rocks and crevices are a number of Black Sea snakes, believed to be the guardians of the temple who protect the entire area from unseen evil forces. They are one of the most poisonous snakes in the world so very interesting to see. We watched the sunset, taking many beautiful pictures.
