To Alaska and Back travel blog

Ready to go

All preparations are finished. There is food in the camper frig (as well as 'dry' stuff in the car), clothes packed for warm and cold weather, my travel literature and books, and my needlepoint. (I'm working on a project for my sister.) Paul found the binoculars which I consider a necessity altho he doesn't.

We have decided to drive directly towards Butte, Montana for the first few days. No sightseeing till later. Paul is eager to get to the Yukon Territories and Alaska. We plan to go north on the west side of the Canadian Rockies since we spent a great deal of time there in 2009.

We have a reservation for tomorrow night at Indianapolis, Indiana at the Indianapolis KOA. That's about a 480 mile drive. We figure that is plenty for the first day. We have both been fighting colds. Plus we need to get out and stretch every 2 hours or so, supposedly for Flutie's sake, but we will benefit, too. Our plan is to get up a 4:30am and get on the road as quickly as we can. We will stop at 8am to feed and dose Flutie. We hope to be in camp before 4 pm.

Our second stop should be around Omaha, Nebraska.
