Java to Bali Explorer travel blog

Today was an amazing day! We started early by walking through the local markets. It really gives you a deep appreciation for our grocery stores as all raw meats and fish are displayed and sold on wood tables covered with bugs. We went on to a village where we walked to the home of a local puppet maker and puppeteer of the famous Javanese Wayan Golek puppets. Along the way, the guide found a little spider that he put on me. Click on the photos to see his size. :) We watched how he made puppets from the local trees and carved them. They can take anywhere from an hour to three weeks to make. He did a really funny puppet show for us in his bamboo studio. I attached a small clip of our groups favorite scene. Puppet shows are a little aggressive here which makes it more for adults.

We traveled on extremely bumpy roads to make it to the Green Canyon which has been the highlight of the trip so far! We boarded small boats and headed up an emerald green river through lush rainforest to the canyon where we were able to swim. It was absolutely spectacular and stunning to be in these cavelike areas swimming. They had an area to jump of rocks and we spent time watching people jump. We stopped at Batu Karas Beach for lunch and spent the afternoon sunbathing and swimming.
