Galapagos Islands, Ecuador (Santa Cruz - Highlands, Fausto Llerana Breeding Centre)
Today we were up early at 6:00am as the people who were leaving had to go at about 7:30am and breakfast was early. It had been quite rough in the night and Lynn did not get much sleep because she felt quite sea sick. After the people had left, there were eight of us left and at 8:30am we went on the zodiac to the shore and caught a bus to the tortoise breeding place in the highlands about 20 minutes drive away. We walked to where the giant tortoises were and had a look at them feeding in a large pond and also on the grass, then we went to a lava tunnel that was illuminated by lights, had a cup of coffee then returned to the town of Ayora Point and looked around the shops for an hour or so till we went back to the boat on the zodiac and had lunch. While we were having lunch the new people arrived and after settling into their cabins, came and had lunch. After lunch and a break while the new people had a briefing, we went on shore again and were taken to the National Park near the town and to the tortoise breeding centre. Our guide gave us a description of the centre and then left us to walk back. We stopped in the town and had a beer, then back to the boat for a break, then welcome drinks and dinner. To bed around 10:00pm. Unfortunately it was rough again tonight and Lynn felt sick again in the late evening. Today was a bit damp in the morning with a fine warm afternoon, quite humid around 28-30C.
