Dinner

Wed May 14, 2014 Casa de San Pedro B&B

Last night the moon was full & bright and the stars were washed out. Doubt we’ll get the big starry sky I was hoping for.

We went to Fort Huachuca (wha-chew-ka) to bird and find the elegant trogon. It’s a huge army base and it took a while to find Garden Canyon, one of several birding places here. WE hiked and hiked, but again, no luck. So we went to Dairy Queen and had banana splits for dinner. ☺

The Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory (Tom & Sheri owners) lead an owl prowl and we signed up for it. We met at 7:15 pm and, with flashlights in hand, hiked into Carr Canyon to look for owls. We got good looks at an elf owl, the smallest owl in North America. They are about the size of a sparrow. Tom was able to do a whiskered owl call and got one to respond. We did not get to see it. Tom did say that he knew where to find the trogon and would take us Thursday morning.
