St. Andrews State Park

|Days 2 and 3: St. Andrews State Park
After a good night’s sleep, [ we were both exhausted], we ,made the painful decision to cancel our trip west.
I can’t deny that I am deeply disappointed by the decision having planned on this trip for so long but on the other hand, there are people in Michigan and Ohio who would give their eye teeth for the chance to explore Florida’s Emerald Coast and we are right here!! So I am making the conscious decision to have a good time anyway.
I cancelled all of our reservations, Grand Canyon South Rim [sniff], Zion River, Dead Horse Ranch and we broke camp. We headed down 98 again, passing through Apalachicola, Port St. Joe and Mexico Beach, all pretty old Florida towns and set our sights on Panama City. We were lucky enough to get a site at St. Andrews SP where we have stayed before. It is a really nice park with a beautiful beach. We are camped just across from the bay so we get a good breeze.
There has been a lot of rain recently and so areas that used to be ponds are like lakes. The hiking trails are closed due to flooding.
We took our bikes down to the beach but it was very windy, not a great beach day. We enjoyed walking on the beach and watching the surfers and even a very good wind surfer.
In our short trek through the park we saw two deer, an alligator, a raccoon and all kinds of birds. Not bad for an afternoon’s ride.
We had dinner at Captain Anderson’s Restaurant where we had some really good and fresh shrimp and scallops. I would definitely go back.
We will stay another day here and then see where we want to go next.
