Loire to the South of France travel blog

May 4, 2014

Everyone slept marginally well last night. Second night is usually the worst for that nasty jet lag.

Leisurely breakfast, book reading, Words with Friends, and laundry. Then off to 11:00 mass at the cathedral. It was a beautiful ceremony all in French...except they re-read the gospel in English. We think it was because there were some donor guests??

Returned to Le Serpente for lunch...soup and panninis. Wander around the town again until we felt we had earned a sweet and a coffee! Then back to the hotel to rest a bit before meeting the group at 5:00.

Our guide, Rolinka, was born in the Netherlands but has lived in France since 2006. She is so organized (which I am going to appreciate). She has a great sense of humor...began with a champaign shower right before serving us Rik (a mixture of sparkling wine and currant liqueur). She is going to make this trip a fun time! Listened to the rules and regulations and got our buddy assignments...our job is to figure out what we have in common with our buddy...why did Rolinka pair us up. So far a mystery with mine,

Walked to dinner...tomato/mozzarella salad, escargot, chicken and mushrooms in a divine cream sauce, fries, free wine, and chocolate mousse that was to die for. Could not even eat a fourth of it since it was so rich and creamy. Wish I had my leftovers right now!

Then we watched laser light shows projected onto a church and the cathedral. Very beautiful and creative. There are over twenty places around town with the shows. It was too late to do more than just two. Perfect night...crisp, cold, clear and no wind.

There are 24 in the group. Everyone seems wonderful and interesting.
