A Cross Country Year with the Dewees Three travel blog

Wishing you all a blessed Easter,

We are currently camping alongside the Colorado River in No Name, CO. Had planned to stay only one night; but it is such a beautiful site and both Jack and IRVing are tired of all the driving we've been doing in the last few days that they deserve a two night stay vs the one night stops we've had since we left Arizona. Plus we didn't get here until 8:30 last night.

In our last posting we were about to experience Bryce Canyon. It had been listed in our National Parks' book as thee park to see if you could only see one. How right they were! It was unbelievable with its hoodoos and unique rock formations, plus the colors. Justice was excited to work on another Junior Park Ranger badge so, while Jack was helping her with that, I hiked into the canyon. Jack's high blood pressure has been impacted by the altitudes so he is a bit dizzy and leery of hiking on the trails. Justice earned her Park Ranger badge and pictures will be posted later.

Bryce Canyon is off of Scenic Highway 12, which is a MUST for anyone travelling UT. Hwy 12 is 124 miles of unending scenery. We stayed the night in Escalante, UT which is midway on Hwy 12 and near the Escalante National Park. Escalante looks like it might be a Sedona in years to come! Hwy 12 had winding roads and steep grades, with the steepest downhill being 10%; the views made the drive worthwhile. It just wasn't a speedy drive so, by the time we reached Colorado yesterday, Jack was tired of driving and ready to stop at the first available campsite.

I'd found a great campsite at mile marker 119; farther than Jack wanted to drive until the first campsite we found was a dump. That got him energized to drive another 100 miles and when we got here, after a grocery stop, we were glad we did. We are close to the Hot Springs and want to take that in, so are staying a second night. Plus Jack and IRVing need the driving break.

Easter Sunday we will have to have our own Sunrise Service on the Colorado River. Then we will take in the hot springs and try to get to the other side of Denver before stopping.

The Dewees Three send you all their blessings!
