We are enjoying our time in Show Low. We have been busy planning to drive several scenic drives in the area. Stay tuned for them soon. This area is loaded with places to see and things to do. Show Low is the commercial and tourism capital of the White Mountains, it was established in 1870 and incorporated in 1953. Located in southern Navajo Country at an elevation of 6,400 feet. We are having very cool mornings with afternoon highs in the 50,s and 60,s That is how we love it. :-)
Show Low received its name when C.E. Cooley and Marion Clark decided there was not enough room for both of them in their settlement. The two men agreed to let a game of cards decide who was to move. According to the story, Clark said, "If you can show low, you win." Cooley turned up the deuce of clubs and replied, "Show low it is." We took a driving tour of the area and took pictures of the murals and more that tell the card game story. One of the streets here is even named Deuce of Clubs. :-)
When we returned home, we had mail in our “own” mailbox. That is something we have not had in over six years, our own mailbox. The campground we are staying in has a box numbered after every site. I wish all campgrounds did this. We are very excited to be picking my sister up in Phoenix soon. We can’t wait to take her exploring with us.
That is all the news for now, check back later for more from Arizona.
