ON THE ROAD AGAIN travel blog

Our day started early as we had a 9 AM appointment with Petsmart to have Jaxon groomed. It's a good thing we left with more than enough time to arrive for the 9 AM because shortly after we left the campground headed north on Highway 111 I noticed a lot of dust in the air. It's not all that uncommon as there are loads of dirt bikes and off road vehicles everywhere in the desert out here. But this was different, it was a car off the side of the road turned upside down.

-

I pulled off the highway and ran to the car while Judy was calling 911. When I got to the upside down car the driver was still inside but the top was crushed down to the point where I could hardly see inside. I got down and looked in and the driver was still inside with blood running down his face. I am not one to panic in an emergency so I knew I had to get him out in case the car caught fire. His seat belt had him trapped inside so I ran to get the knife in our Jeep glove box but it was not there. Judy and I were flagging other people going down the highway to get someone with a knife. One guy had a box cutter and we cut the seat belt and got the guy out.

It seemed rather strange that everyone there, maybe 4-5 guys suddenly took off when we got the driver out, it was like they sure didn't want to be around when the police arrived. I stayed with the guy and soon the fire truck with the EMT's were on the scene. The guy seemed OK and I asked the one EMT if we would be needed and he said "no" and thanked us for our help. I'm sure glad we left early because if we would not have seen the dust in the air we would have never known that the accident happened.

-

After all that we proceeded to Petsmart and drop Jaxon off and proceeded to go to 9:30 Mass in a church we have never been to before. After Mass I dropped Judy off at Walmart and I went and had the oil changed in our Jeep. About the time I was done Judy was also done so we picked up Jaxon and headed back home.

We hate days like this with several things to do but when we only come into town once a week we get most of out "stuff" done while there. It was a good thing I was able to help the lucky guy in the car and it's a good thing he was wearing his seat belt because that is what saved his life for sure.

No photo's or stories of our sightseeing today but stay tuned for my next entry.
