|Wet & windy this morning so packed up & moved on early. Had to wait for the guy to unlock the electrical box & disconnect our cable so didn't get away until 8.30 in the end. Moving on up to a site just across the bay to the South of Lisbon.
It rained most of the way up but one compensation was that we found cheaper diesel on the way. The normal rate in Portugal has been €1.39 so when I saw a supermarket station advertising diesel for €1.28/ltr we made a quick u-turn & filed up. Only disappointment was that a few miles further on we saw a station offering €1.26/ltr. Always seems to happen that way, never mind €1.28 was very acceptable.
After an early lunch we caught a bus into Lisbon, less hassle than unloading Doris & struggling to find our way round a new city. The bus ride was about thirty minutes & dropped us off in the middle of Lisbon. We were both disappointed with Lisbon as it seemed to lack any real character or life. We wandered down a long road towards the port area & eventually found a tourist information office where we picked up a map & some ideas what to do & see. The best idea we liked was to catch one of the old fashioned trams & ride round on it to see the city. This we did & it was certainly different.
We still didn't see anything that excited our interest so we caught another tram to a suburb of Lisbon & took the ferry back across the bay & then another local bus back to the camp site. We missed our stop & had to walk half a mile back so on the way we stopped & had dinner at a call local restaurant serving authentic Portugese food. This turned out to be a large dish full of rice, beans, vegetables and al sorts of strange bits of meat & sausage. It was edible, in the main, but neither of us would bother with it again. Never mind, at least we tried it.
The rides on the buses, the trams & the ferry were the highlights of our day today. We won't be spending a second day in the Lisbon area.
