Mexico With Tom & Jan
Dec 19, 2013
|We went across the border to Mexico today, with friends, Tom & Jan, who are from Canada.
They have a “Park Model” home here at Llano Grande and we have known Jan since 2007.
They rode with us this time and it took only a few minutes to reach the parking lot on the USA side of the border.
The charge to park all day is only $2.00.
We paid .50 cents each to go through the turnstiles, then walked across the bridge spanning the Rio Grande River, and we were in Mexico.
We walked along on the sidewalk, which was not too crowded yet, as many of the Winter Texans haven’t arrived yet, and soon reached “Rene’s Bakery” where we enjoyed a sweet roll with a cup of delicious coffee, and music from the strolling mariachi band.
Two sweet rolls and two cups of coffee with endless refills cost $4.50, and of course we tipped the musicians $1.00 and left another dollar on the table as a tip for the waiter.
Ater this bit of fun we walked back to the beginning of the town and started over, exploring the little nooks and crannies of the many shops and stands selling all sorts of leather goods, jewelry, clothing, purses, ceramics, metal works, and many additional varieties of delightful trinkets.
Tom & Jan found several things they needed, to take home, then Tom and I allowed the ladies to continue shopping while us guys retired to a nice little bar I had never visited before.
Soon, our dear spouses joined us for a margarita, which turned into two because of the endless “Happy Hour” with two for one drinks.
By this time it was a few minutes after noon, so we decided to go have lunch at “Red Snapper” and then return to the shops to pick up the items we all wanted to take home.
It was 2:30 in the afternoon by the time we were back in our little rolling condo.
The awesome weather with a nice breeze made an afternoon nap quite desirable and it didn’t take long for me to begin testing the back of my eyelids for light leaks.
So, it was another wonderful day in the company of good friends.
We are blessed for sure!
Life is Good!
