We visited the Moonflower Canyon Petroglyphs and campground today. The whole area is breathtaking. It is located at the head of Moonflower Canyon in Moab, about eight miles from the city. The rock panel dates back to the Archaic to Formative Periods and contains designs of deer, desert bighorn sheep and abstract designs. I was shocked to see some people had actually sketched their names and initials into the rocks.
Jerry did some cave exploring and was surprised to see they had added logs for steps to climb to the top. The camping areas are for tents only, what a beautiful place for camping. The Colorado River is right across the street from the camping area. The cottonwood trees in the area are blazing and beautiful. What surprised us most was the red sand, we have never seen all the sand in an area this big totally red. It was a cool place to visit, we highly recommend it to anyone in the area.
It was another amazing day in Moab, check back later for more.
