We had decided to make an extended visit at Buccaneer State Park in Waveland, Mississippi, where a small part of the state meets the ocean. This park is right on the beach, and had the devastating experience of Hurricane Katrinia in 2005. The park had been covered as high as 25 feet in water and was absolutely destroyed. When we visited this year it had come a long way in recovery and is an absolutely beautifully restored park (They are presently continuing with their renovations!)
We found that we enjoyed the area so much we extended our stay to a couple of weeks. As you can see in the pictures, we biked a lot (Nice and flat, a favorite!), traveled over to Gulf Port, Biloxi, and enjoyed the closest towns of Waveland/Bay Saint Louis.
The highlight of our time here was an overnight stay with my nephew, Brent and Christy Pickering in Biloxi, MS. We were served, by Brent, the best steak we had ever eaten, played darts until we dropped, and enjoyed the beautiful view from their deck on the canal in the evening. It is always a special event and enjoyable time seeing some of your family along the road!
