|From State Fairgrounds of West Virginia
Another long drive today. We left Indiana, drove through Kentucky and West Virginia. We are just a few miles from the Virginia line. We wanted to stop here to see our friends, Sandy and Jerry Dawson.
This campground is at the fairgrounds which is about 3 miles from Sandy and Jerry. It’s very nice and level. There are 7 other RV’s here too. It’s very open so we had no trouble getting a satellite signal. Bill was happy to be able to watch the Redskins and Cowboys game. Monday morning, there was only one other RV with us. Very quiet!
It started drizzling in Kentucky and by the time we got into WV it was coming down pretty good. We also had to pay $6.50 in tolls to go a short distance across the mountain. I was hoping to see some fall foliage but with the rain and fog, it wasn’t too pretty. However, when we got to the other side, it cleared some and the colors were more visible.
We went to see Sandy and Jerry Mon. around noon. They have a lovely home with a view of the mountains from the deck. Her sister and brother-in-law were visiting from Cincinnati and we had a pleasant afternoon sitting on the deck in the warm sunshine. We all decided to go to a Mexican Restaurant for dinner and were joined by the CEO of the Greenbrier Clinic, Sandy’s grandson and another friend of Sandy’s. We really enjoyed our day.
We had planned to go to the hotel on Mon. but were having such a nice time that we decided to stay another night and go this morning. We stayed at the hotel for our anniversary about 5 years ago and since that time, CSX sold it. It pretty much looks the same except for the addition of the casino. Unlike Vegas, you have to be a guest of the hotel to go in there and at night men have to have a coat and tie. Bond…James Bond!!!!
I went to my favorite place which was a balcony overlooking the mountains. We did some shopping but neither one of us were hungry so after walking around a bit, we left. On the way out, I saw the porter that used to take care of us whenever we went there. It was the only face I recognized. The new owners cleaned house when they took over and a lot of the employees I knew were gone.
We are going to stay in Richmond tonight and visit with Stephanie and Russell. We haven’t seen them in a couple of months, so it will be a nice stop.
Until we meet again…
