|Scenic cruising day at sea
Today was a scenic cruising day as we leave the west coast of Italy and head for Corfu tomorrow.
At 10am we passed slowly by the volcanic Island of Stromboli. It is continually active with some fire balls erupting a few times a day. Some of you may remember the movie “Stromboli” with the beautiful Ingrid Bergman and director Roberto Rossellini.
The cruise continued through the Strait of Messina; a narrow channel between Italy and Sicily which can be quite a challenge to ships at certain times. It was a lovely day to stand outside and watch the wonderful coastline of Sicily on one side and Calabria, Italy on the other. There has been talk of building a bridge between the two but it has met great resistance.
Tonight was a formal dress night with a lovely dinner as usual. Viv had a crab and artichoke starter, cold blueberry soup and a lovely mushroom risotto with mascarpone cheese followed by a coffee and amaretto ice cream sundae. Gerry had seafood salad, duck pate and beef wellington followed by the sundae.
Luckily we are walking enough when we’re ashore to keep off to many extra pounds!
