Ray & Elaine's 2013 trip through Canada and the USA travel blog

Depart: Washington, DC.

Arrive: Luray, Virginia

Today was an easy drive even though it was a freeway drive. Once we got to Front Royal, Virginia it became a very beautiful drive.

We drove the Skyline drive which is in Shenandoah National Park. It has magnificent views along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Before we came to the tunnel that is called the Thornton Gap Entrance we left the Skyline Drive as the tunnel is only recommended for 12' 8" clearance, we could have probably done it if we had stayed in the middle (we are 13' 1") but in my mind better safe than sorry and it was time to find a campground.

We then drove from Skyline drive and into the Shenandoah River Valley and ended the evening at a State Park camped by the Shenandoah River. The area is green and lush and the scenery is beautiful. Another great State Park, will power and water and laundry.
