Approaching the tunnel, center is 13’ 1’, sides are 11’ 4”

Set-up at Zion River Resort

Today we traveled from Bryce City to Virgin, Utah. It was a short trip, 97 miles.

Our route took us through Zion NP which included the 1.1 Mile Mt Carmel Tunnel. There are tunnel restrictions, vehicles must be under 40 feet in length, and no more than 13 feet 1 inch high. Our motorhome is just under the length and height limits. When we got to the tunnel entrance the park ranger told us once he gave us the ok, we owned the tunnel road, no one else would be allowed to enter from the opposite direction, this way we could drive down the center of the tunnel, where there is just enough clearance for our motorhome (our motorhome is 12’ 10” high). Since the Jeep put us over the length limit, L drove the Jeep through separately.

We’re staying at the Zion River Resort for a week. Tonight the campground had a wine and cheese get together for the campers, of course we went. Great way to unwind :-)
