Thursday, August 4. Delos, Paros. We motor sailed to Delos, one of the most important archeological sites in Greece. ("More Ruins!"—Jeff) It is the mythical birthplace of the twins Apollo and Artemis. The oldest temples and shrines on this island date to the 8th century B.C. During Hellenistic times, Delos became one of the three most important religious centers in Greece and a flourishing commerce center. The Romans made Delos a free port in 167 B.C. We hiked to the summit of Mt. Kythnos (113 meters) for a commanding view of Delos and our boat, Jo Wind, below.
From Delos, we motored to Paros, our final sail destination. We had our first and final dinner aboard the boat.
