Danny and Elise Brown's Travels 2013 travel blog

We arrived Monday, 8/12, in Spearfish, S.D. toward the northern end of the Black Hills, an island in the flatlands. From here we went over to the Devil's Tower; the Indians perfer to reference as the Bear Tower. It is a spectacular formation out in the middle of rolling hills. We drove the Spearfish Canyon Trail and stopped at the three water falls. This area reminds me a lot of the Appalachians with the tree covered canyon walls and the small but beautiful falls. The loop took us thru Lead, Deadwood, and concluded in Sturgis. In Deadwood we stopped to take a walk to see Will Bill's and Pastor Smith's gravesites. The downtown is now noted for its casinos and the history as the top producing gold mining town in the area. Sturgis is a two road street with bars, restaurants, and t-shirt shops all geared for bikers.

Our camping neighbors were a delightful couple now living in Bonita Springs. She is originally from Mankato, MN., where they are headed.

A first for us! one evening a small fishing yacht pulled in, the owner hooked up to water, went in for the night, and was gone early the next morning.

God continues to send angels to protect us while we travel.
